Vatnajökull National Park

The Vatnajökull National Park rebranding showcases Iceland’s iconic landscape with icy blue tones and an iceberg motif. The glyph logo merges the letter "V" with an iceberg, symbolizing the park's most common feature. Inspired by glacial hues, the brand guide ensures logo consistency and usage. The brochure highlights park activities, complemented by a user-friendly map. The stationery system adheres to the same design system, employing hierarchy principles such as weight, color, and size for consistency and coherence.

logo thought process

Shown above is my thought process behind creating the logo for Vatnajökull National Park. The use of the iceberg is to show the classic glacial features the park encompasses. I wanted to show both the top and bottom half of an iceberg, as well as make the bottom half the letter “V” to emphasize the park’s name. I tested a variety of different typefaces for it and realized I wanted to use a letterform with a pointy end, to mimic the bottom of an iceberg.

I played around with keeping the top of the iceberg and the letter “V” as separate forms, compared to one closed form. After choosing to use two forms and leaving the center transparent as a substitute for the water surface. To decide on the final colors I made a gradient of blues, eventually landing on the 5th option, as highlighted below.
